হেয়ার স্কুল অ্যালামনি অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের উদ্যোগে, শুভেচ্ছা জানালেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
আজ খবর (বাংলা), [রাজ্য] কলকাতা, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, ১৯/০২/২০২৬ : প্রখ্যাত শিক্ষাবিদ ডেভিড হেয়ারের আড়াইশততম জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে হেয়ার স্কুল অ্যালামনি অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের উদ্যোগে প্রকাশিত হলো একটি বিশেষ স্মারক পত্রিকা। ১৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি অনুষ্ঠিত এই কর্মসূচিতে প্রাক্তন ছাত্রছাত্রী, বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদ, সমাজের নানা ক্ষেত্রের প্রতিনিধিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। অনুষ্ঠানে ডেভিড হেয়ারের প্রতিকৃতিতে মাল্যদান ও স্মৃতিচারণার মাধ্যমে তাঁকে শ্রদ্ধা জানানো হয়।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় এক শুভেচ্ছা বার্তায় ডেভিড হেয়ারের অবদানকে গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে স্মরণ করেন। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, বাংলায় আধুনিক শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার প্রসারে ডেভিড হেয়ারের ভূমিকা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। শিক্ষার আলো সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে তাঁর নিরলস প্রচেষ্টা আজও প্রেরণার উৎস। মানবতাবাদী ও শিক্ষানুরাগী এই মহান ব্যক্তিত্বের জন্মজয়ন্তীতে তিনি তাঁর স্মৃতির প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করে অনুষ্ঠানের সর্বাঙ্গীণ সাফল্য কামনা করেন।
বিগত ১৭ তারিখে হেয়ার স্কুলের প্রাক্তনীদের এই সভায় উপস্থিত ছিলেন হেয়ার স্কুল এলামনি এসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি অমিত রায়, সাধারণ সম্পাদক গৌতম বসু ও পরামর্শদাতা তথা দাবা গ্র্যান্ডমাস্টার দিব্যেন্দু বড়ুয়া ও অন্যান্যরা।
অ্যালামনি অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের তরফে জানানো হয়, প্রকাশিত স্মারক পত্রিকায় ডেভিড হেয়ারের জীবন ও কর্ম, তাঁর শিক্ষাদর্শ, সমাজসংস্কারে অবদান এবং সমকালীন প্রেক্ষাপটে তাঁর চিন্তার প্রাসঙ্গিকতা নিয়ে একাধিক প্রবন্ধ সংকলিত হয়েছে। ১৭৭৫ সালে জন্মগ্রহণকারী ডেভিড হেয়ার কলকাতায় আধুনিক শিক্ষার প্রসারে অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করেন। হেয়ার স্কুল প্রতিষ্ঠা এবং শিক্ষা বিস্তারের বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে তিনি বাঙালি সমাজে নবজাগরণের পথ প্রশস্ত করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তারা বলেন, ডেভিড হেয়ারের জীবনাদর্শ শুধু অতীতের গৌরব নয়, বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যতের দিশারী। তাঁর ২৫০তম জন্মবার্ষিকী উদ্যাপন উপলক্ষে আগামী সময়ে সেমিনার, আলোচনা সভা ও বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করা হবে বলেও জানানো হয়।
ডেভিড হেয়ারের এই ঐতিহাসিক জন্মজয়ন্তী উদ্যাপন শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে মানবিক ও প্রগতিশীল সমাজ গঠনের অঙ্গীকারকে আরও দৃঢ় করল—এমনটাই মত উপস্থিত বিশিষ্টজনদের।
Aaj Khabor desk, Kolkata, West Bengal, 19/02/2026 : A special commemorative magazine was published by the Hare School Alumni Association to mark the 250th birth anniversary of David Hare. The event, held on February 17, was attended by former students, distinguished educationists, and members of civil society. Floral tributes were offered to honour the great educationist’s legacy.
The president Mr. Amit Roy, the general secretary Goutam Basu, the advisor and chess grandmaster Dibyendu Barua and others of Hare school alumni association were present at the meeting .
In a message of goodwill, Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to David Hare’s immense contribution to the spread of modern education in Bengal. She highlighted his pioneering role in making education accessible to the masses and described his humanitarian vision as a lasting source of inspiration.
Born in 1775, David Hare played a crucial role in the growth of modern education in Kolkata and was instrumental in the establishment of Hare School. Speakers at the event emphasized that his ideals remain relevant in contemporary times and announced plans for seminars, discussions, and cultural programs throughout the year to commemorate his 250th birth anniversary.
